The Cesar Chavez Resolution

Senate Republicans blocked a resolution honoring Cesar Chavez on his birthday (March 31) due to language that Democrats refused to allow to be added to the resolution.  Chavez formed the United Farm Workers labor union, which organized agriculture workers.  Republicans wanted to add Chavez position on illegal immigration. Republicans would have voted for the resolution if Democrats had accepted additional language that recognized Chavez supported strict enforcement of immigration laws in order to help protect American workers’ wages. But Democrats refused to agree to those additions, leaving both sides at a stalemate.  Democrats did not debate on Chavez stance on illegal immigration.  But, that didn't stop them from castigating the GOP for not going along with their agenda.  “It is an injustice to his memory,” said Sen. Robert Menendez, the New Jersey Democrat who tried to force a vote and who said Republicans were trying to mix the immigration debate with a commemorative resolution.

Obamacare Follies - Part V

I was hesitant to call this story "Obamacare Follies" for the simple fact it makes it appear light-hearted and/or funny.  There is nothing funny about the following story.  Pastor Angran was diagnosed with stage three cancer of the esophagus. He had insurance, but because of a previous heart condition, it did not cover the treatments he needed for his cancer. He found this out just minutes before receiving life-saving chemo.  A worker came in to talk to the pastor.  He was informed that under Obamacare he is not covered for lifesaving chemo treatments.  As a result, the Angrans have emptied their savings account and now are $50K in debt thanks in no small part to Obamacare.  The Angrans can't even afford to pay the premiums which are over $800 a month and with less coverage than their former insurance plan.  Pastor Angran said there is, "no compassion in the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare)."  No word from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on whether he thinks Pastor Angran is lying or not.

The Right Commentary - First Post

Hello!  I want to welcome you to the first post of a new blog, "The Right Commentary."

The parent blog of The Right Commentary is David's Musings.   Now, I did political commentary on David's Musings for the past three years.  But, since I reopened that blog, I prefer to focus on the lighter side of things, some amusing, some not so amusing.  This blog will focus on politics in the United States of America.  These are turbulent times in which we live.  Unemployment is at a staggering 9.1%, the economy is sinking again, Wall St. is up and down with more downs than ups.  Liberals like to lay the blame at the feet of former President George W. Bush.  No doubt, he shares some blame.

Gun Control - Waterloo for Democrats?

Much has been said and debated since the senseless tragedy of the killing of 26 innocent lives, including 20 children, at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT.  Most of it borders on hysterics, some of it downright frightening.  Both sides, Left and Right, need to calm down.  You have the Left saying the President of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and all its members should be shot.  Think of the irony of that statement for a moment.  A segment of the population that wants gun control (or just outright abolition thereof) is wanting to use guns to kill people who disagree with them.  The intolerant, bigoted, violent Left never, ever ceases to amaze or entertain.  I doubt they even recognize the irony in their statements of violence.  To make matters worse, you have people like Senator Dianne Feinstein who is once again trying to get passage on a bill that makes gun owners get background checks, finger prints and just basically makes them criminals.  What her bill is all about is to frustrate people into giving up their guns to the federal government.  Democrats are taking an enormous political risk by pushing for gun control.  I'm certain Democrats remember what happened the last time they pushed for gun control.

The last time Democrats went all out on gun control was in the middle of Bill Clinton's first term as President.  Their losses were monumental in the mid-term 1994 elections.  It was the first time that a Speaker of the House, Tom Foley, had lost reelection since the Civil War.  It was the first time since 1954 that Democrats did not control the House.  In other words, the Democrats of today are expending major political capital in their attempt to appeal or invalidate the Second Amendment.  Now, some will, once again, hysterically point out this has nothing to do with politics.  "This is all about protecting our children" Bullshit.  I hate to say this, but Liberals don't give a damn about those children that were murdered.  This is ALL about politics to them.  Anything goes in pushing their political agenda.  As soon as the 2011 Tucson Shootings took place, Liberals immediately tried to put the blame on Conservative Tea Party members.  The bodies were still warm when they took to the airwaves and blogs to cast blame.  There was little sympathy for the six people that died and the other twelve that were wounded, including Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.  So, color me skeptical of Liberal outrage over these children.  It's all about politics to them and always will be.

Regardless of what happens to gun control in Congress, Democrats are taking a big gamble and they know it.  Democrats have been on the upswing since 2008, with the exception of 2010, and were very successful in 2012.  As stated, I'm not buying their excuse that they want to protect people from guns.  A crazy person is going to get a gun, someway, somehow.  This is about power, absolute power for the federal government.  It is not about gun control.  Democrats see this as an opportunity to press their dream of unlimited power and putting even more government into the lives of every American.

Decision Time for Americans

November 6, 2012.  The Presidential Election which is probably the most important in American history.  The choices couldn't be more stark.  On one hand, you have the most radical Left-wing President in Barack Obama this nation has ever elected.  He has no interest in meeting in the middle on any issue.  It's his way or the highway.  He is partisan, he is stubborn and he is arrogant.  President Obama has an ego so big that his ego even has an ego (kudos to Greg Gutfield).  President Obama has never been able to accept criticism.  Unlike former President Bush, Obama absorbs criticism and feels he must automatically respond to it.  I have always gotten the impression President Obama has never understood the enormity of the Office of the President of the United States.  A case in point was his comment on his old friend being arrested and Obama commenting "The police acted stupidly."   Most Presidents grow into the job.  President Obama never has and, hopefully, will not get a chance to do that in the next four years.

Mitt Romney is not the perfect Republican Presidential candidate. He has vacillated on issues over the years from abortion to illegal immigration to health care.  But, Mitt Romney is infinitely better than President Obama.  Obama and his Democratic Progressive branch will continue to spend until this nation falls over the proverbial fiscal cliff (which is not far off now).  The out of control spending has to be stopped.  The only way to do that is to elect Mitt Romney as President.  My vote for Mitt Romney is not so much because I like him.  My vote is due to wanting Obama out of office as soon as possible.  President Obama came into office with tremendous problems facing him.  However, instead of making them better, President Obama has made them worse. The economy is in shambles. Unemployment is still completely unacceptable.  Our drop in AAA rating is a danger sign that doesn't get enough attention.  He has proven tentative on foreign policy with Benghazi being the latest disaster.  You can point to Osama bin Laden all you want.  But, the fact remains there are four dead Americans, including the U.S. Ambassador, in Libya. Obama is more concerned with his position in the world rather than in the USA.

I hope those of you who read this post will join with me in voting for Mitt Romney.  We must shift away from a nation of dependents and back to a nation of independents.  Americans have always been known for their "can do" spirit to get things done.  The world is waiting for us to return to predominance, to lead once again.  President Obama is not the answer.  President Romney is the only choice.
