The Cesar Chavez Resolution
Senate Republicans blocked a resolution honoring Cesar Chavez on his birthday (March 31) due to language that Democrats refused to allow to be added to the resolution. Chavez formed the United Farm Workers labor union, which organized agriculture workers. Republicans wanted to add Chavez position on illegal immigration. Republicans would have voted for the resolution if Democrats had accepted additional language that recognized Chavez supported strict enforcement of immigration laws in order to help protect American workers’ wages. But Democrats refused to agree to those additions, leaving both sides at a stalemate. Democrats did not debate on Chavez stance on illegal immigration. But, that didn't stop them from castigating the GOP for not going along with their agenda. “It is an injustice to his memory,” said Sen. Robert Menendez, the New Jersey Democrat who tried to force a vote and who said Republicans were trying to mix the immigration debate with a commemorative resolution.
Could the Democrats be any more obvious in their blatant attempt to disregard U.S. Immigration Law than to deny true facts of an Hispanic hero on farm workers rights? Chavez saw the danger to families with unfettered illegal immigration. Now, Sen. Jeff Sessions, Alabama Republican, argued just that point, saying that Democrats were whitewashing Chavez’s stances, which backed strict enforcement of immigration laws and regularly protested farmers’ use of illegal immigrants in their fields. Like always, with Democrats, it's our way or the highway. They want to omit Chavez stance on illegal aliens because it doesn't fit their agenda on amnesty to 20 million illegal aliens in this country. So, an opportunity to honor a man who is a hero to all farm workers, is wasted once again due to an intransigent and acrimonious position to truth by Democrats. Democrats hate facts. The fact that Cesar Chavez warned about illegal immigration doesn't fit what Democrats advocate with the illegal immigration problem in this country. No one should be surprised by this. In fact, you won't see ANY Democrat comment on Chavez position on illegal immigration. Meanwhile, our southern border is being overrun by illegals. I would imagine Cesar Chavez is twisting in his grave.
