Misfire - The VA Scandal
I've held off commentary on this burgeoning scandal surrounding the VA's total incompetence toward our nation's Veterans. I have done so due to how personal it is to me, a Veteran. Now, that I have calmed down (somewhat anyway), I want to say that, we as a nation, are truly finished by allowing the men and women die for lack of medical assistance. Where is our moral compass? Where is our compassion for those who sacrificed themselves by fighting our enemies? At least 40 Veterans died on a waiting list that was basically ignored or hidden by the VA. This is simply inexcusable by any definition you wish to use. There is no excuse valid enough to excuse this total lack of gratitude for our Veterans.
We give better medical service to those who violate our immigration laws than our nation's Veterans. We give better medical service to global terrorists in Guantanamo than our nation's Veterans. Hell, murderers and rapists get better medical services than our Veterans. Let's face it, we have failed our Veterans by allowing this tragedy to unfold for decades. As much as I would love to blame all this on Obama (and it did come to a head on his watch), this has been going on for decades. VA hospitals are nothing short of rat holes!!! Go to any VA facility and you will see some of the most archaic medical equipment of any medical facility. If this was the private sector, the VA facilities would be shut down!!! It is an abomination that cannot be tolerated any longer. This failure to our Veterans falls on every Republican and Democrat now and in the past. We are all to blame for this atrocity.
Some have said we should give vouchers to every Veteran so they can pick and choose whatever hospital they want. I agree. But, my only question is why wasn't this proposed 20, 30 or even 40 years ago? Why let our Veterans languish in these rat holes in the first place? Go to any VA facility and see the Veterans in wheelchairs in the halls. They are there because they don't have rooms for recreation or anything to occupy their time. They are treated as pariahs who are considered "medical waste." Meanwhile, our Congressmen (who are exempt from VA-like Obamacare) get the very best of medical treatment known today. Why is that? Why is it you can serve 2 years in Congress and get the best pension, the best medical insurance and perks for a lifetime? Where are we as a society by allowing this to happen in the first place? President Obama's feigned outrage is thus far showing no results to alleviate the suffering of Veterans. Nothing. Politicians can be easily blamed for this. But, we as private citizens must also share the blame of at least 40 Veterans dying for help. We are OBLIGATED to help all our Veterans in their time of need! We are a morally bankrupt nation for allowing this tragedy to take place with our Veterans. This must not stand any longer.
On Memorial Day people went to the beach, grilled out in their backyard and just enjoyed a day off from work. But, at VA hospitals, our Veterans were mostly honored with an ice cream cone. That was their "treat" on Memorials Day, a day that was made for them. If those Veterans could speak collectively, I am sure they would ask, "America, why have you forgotten us?" I have no answer.

All political views are welcome. That includes the liberal viewpoint as well. Civil discussion is preferred and encouraged. You can disagree without being disagreeable.
